Lullabies

Sometimes, when you go to bed and can't sleep, you sneak out of your bed and ask me to sing you a lullaby.

When you first asked this, I wasn't quite sure what to sing.  So I decided to go with 'Away in a Manger' (AKA 'The Jesus One'), 'Silent Night' and 'Edelweiss'.

You enjoy them very much, as do I.  We cuddle up, and you watch me tenderly, listening intently.  You always ask why Jesus is asleep on the hay, to which the answer varies in length, depending on how keen we are to get you to bed.  You also try to sing along, which is also lovely as you can really hold a tune.

On other occasions you categorically ask me not to sing along to songs... which is less good!

Signing with Minnie

Although we went on a baby signing class when Minnie was young, we agreed that it was not a priority as she should have sufficient hearing with her hearing aid to get on ok.

As it happens. a few signs have stuck.

More (pointing to the middle of your palm)

Eating/food (closed fingers to the mouth)

Drinking/drink (fingers as if holding a cup to the mouth)

Finished/all gone! (hands together, then apart)

It makes me want to learn a few more, as she also uses the words when she uses the signs, so it does help her speech acquisition.  I have downloaded an app, so let's see how we get on ...

Carrots and Other Bounty

Lots of fruit and veg have grown in our garden this year, it has been a joy to cultivate them and to eat them!  We have grown figs, apples, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, plums, courgettes, tomatoes … and most amusingly carrots!

We have planted more seed now ready for (hopefully) another batch in winter … fingers crossed!
